Or maybe just not a thing at all. Xander's friends have access super powers, magic, secret lore or at least a cool title like "Rogue Demon hunter". Xander's superpower is carpentry. If the cosmos found Xander worth punishing it would prove than Xander was important enough to punish. This would in some sense defeat the purpose of Xander as a character.
